Vinegar Testimonials:

Dear George,

Thanks for your site. It helped me enormously although the white vinegar remedy I chose is taking a long time. I have applied it every morning on both feet, all 10 toes, for over a year and I am afraid to stop since I think I still see a bit of a problem. I have also improved (I think) on the method of application. I started with cue tip, graduated to tooth brush dipped in vinegar and continued on to a nail brush so I could do all five toes at once. It cuts down the time. I alternate between feet and scrub for about 30 seconds at a time.

Hey George,

No new remedies, but thought I would give you some feedback.

I have been using the white vinegar treatment in the evening for the past few weeks and have already noticed a difference. I am fortunate since my nails grow rather quickly ( or maybe its a curse ). I modified the treatment process just a little.

You may want to suggest to your readers to purchase some large cotton balls and some sandwich bags. I place one cotton ball in each bag and then pour the white vinegar into the bag and completely saturate the cotton ball. I then place the cotton ball in the corner of the bag and slip my foot into the bag. I then place the cotton ball on top of the infected nail ensuring that it covers all contact areas with the nail and the skin. Then I kick back and let it do its thing for about fifteen minutes. The only side effect is a little tingling and if you get to much vinegar in the bag pruning of the skin. I then towel dry my foot with a dry wash cloth.

Before I go to bed I spray the nail with Lotrimin ( Don't know if this helps or not ) and put a cotton ankle sock on.

In the morning when I get into the shower I take a wash cloth and soak it with Clorox. I coat the nail and rub it in deep. I usually let the Clorox do its thing for a minute then start showering. I have had no side effects, but I will tell you and your readers that I have been using Clorox for taking care of chiggers, hand fungus for years with no side effects. I would emphasize that every ones body is different and well all tolerate exposure to chemicals differently.

I think the other important thing is I'm wearing Merrill slip on shoes ( No socks ) so my foot gets plenty of air. I treat the shoe every day with antifungal, usually remove the insoles once a week and soak them in a solution of Clorox to kill bacteria and fungus that has decided to set up shop.

Again Thank you for posting the information. I very seldom take medications and have no desire to ever take something that has the side effects of screwing up my liver or any other body part.

Thanks Again,

Bryan

QUESTION: "How do you get rid of toenail fungus?"

NANCY SNYDERMAN, MD: For starters, don't panic. Fungus may be ugly, but it's not deadly. And with a little help, you'll soon be able to go barefoot without embarrassment.

Many doctors and patients swear by prescription anti-fungal ointments. But it's important that you use the medications for the full time they're prescribed, even months after the infection disappears. If you stop using them too soon, your symptoms may return. If you'd like to avoid a trip to the pharmacist, there are also some home remedies that you might try. Soak your feet in a solution that's one part white vinegar and two parts water for 15 to 45 minutes a day. Another option is a mixture that's one part bleach and four parts water. And some doctors even suggest that dunking your feet in rubbing alcohol might do the trick. But don't just focus on your feet. Make sure you also wash your hands after inspecting those feet. The last thing you need is fungus on both your fingers and your toes.

I believe 5% acetic vinegar is the most economical and effective treatment for toenail fungus. After trying various topical solutions (most based on benzalkonium chloride as the active agent) at around $15 for 0.5 oz., I bought a 32 oz. bottle of vinegar and a 2.4 gal. Rubbermaid rectangular, lidded plastic tub large enough to soak both feet. Total grocery store cost: $12. I soak for a minute or two at least twice a day and reuse the solution. In four weeks I have seen visible improvement where the nail grows and my skin fungus (between the toes) is completely gone. Also, my feet feel fresher and cleaner so I get positive feedback which is important because you need to continue the treatment for perhaps six months before the toenail grows out completely clear.

I have been using distilled vinegar for 9 months now. I see a very slight improvement but then it starts again. I have it on 8 toes. Should I keep cutting the nail back or let it grow. I heard you have to keep cutting it so it gets underneath. Appreciate any help. Thanks, Irene

Hi, I was looking on the web site and found your remedies. I just started the vinegar one last night, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I am glad that you had this site, because I don’t have insurance but I was going to make an appt with a doctor to see about getting those pills that I’ve seen on tv. But I was worried about the kidney or liver problems you could face by taking those tablets. I did have one question that was not on your site. Once I start to use the vinegar, do I have to keep my toes un-polished until it’s all gone or can I still use the vinegar and paint my toes. Please reply, this would be a great help, since it’s sandal season. I wear a lot of open toed shoes. But if I have to go without until this is all clear, I will. But then again if it’s cool to paint my toes, I will. (smile)

Thank you so much

Hi,

Just came across your site because I too used to suffer from nail fungus. I have spent a lot of money at the Dermatologists office, first it is nail fungus then it is psoriasis. I tried the expensive drug Lamisil, with no results. I read on your site about vinegar and it is true. I have a list of over 200 uses for vinegar, from using it as a cleaning agent, to curing fungus and even dandruff!! I cured my own fungus with vinegar, I would take it internally (yes, it is a bit nasty tasting), 1 tablespoon with water 2-3 times per day and then I would also soak, not just apply, soak my fingers and toes in the straight solution. My husband was going nuts from the smell but after a few months (once my nails grew out) he was able to see a HUGE difference and said if the fungus ever comes back (which I highly doubt, since I still drink it daily) he will not make comments about the smell. I've noticed a great improvement with my skin tone as well, vinegar is supposed to be good for acne also!

I also started using it as a cleaning agent in my home, I used to use bleach to clean and disinfect but ended up with chronic breathing problems from the constant use. Yes, vinegar smells bad at first, but give it a few minutes and the smell dissipates. I also put a few drops of Apple Cider vinegar in my dogs water, it took him some time to get used to it, but it is working great as a flea remedy.

I have an herb that may help nail fungus, it is actually designed for warts. My poor son...I took him to see a dermatologist for what I thought was a HUGE ingrown hair on the front of his neck, turns out it was a wart. After the discovery of 1, more and more started popping up on his face and other parts of his neck., doctor said it is caused by an internal virus. After many, many sessions of having the warts "burned" he begged me to look for another alternative as it was extremely painful. I did some research and found Thuja. He has been taking it for 3 months now and no new ones have popped up, the big one on his neck is small, it now looks like a mosquito bite. He is so happy I found this, and for around $5 a bottle it is totally worth the price to see my son happy and not have to go through all that pain.

I am really glad you created the site and offer remedies for free. Perhaps you should expand it to other things besides nail fungus.

The only thing I ask is that you do not publish my email address as it is my work one. Feel free to use my name as I am not shy about backing up my statements, especially is they are true statements.

George -

Wow! Toenail Fungus and Speedreading! That's quite an intriguing combination.

I started out at your toenail fungus site, so I'll begin there. Thank you so much for the information. I feel like trying all of those remedies at once, just to get rid of my problem. I was not very thrilled with the Lamisil route, even though I did get a prescription from my dr. but haven't ordered it yet. (It is considerable cheaper if purchased through CanadaDrugs.com, by the way, though still not cheap, by any means!) I've been doing the tea tree oil route, but my husband hates the smell, so I've tried numerous brands just searching for one that is less offensive. I only have the fungus on my left foot, and with the tea tree oil, my nails seem to be doing better. However, since acquiring the fungus, the whole sole of my left foot has become very leathery and cracked, and the tea tree oil doesn't seem to be addressing that issue. I look like I have a mismatched set of feet! Is it typical for the fungus to cause problems with the rest of the foot?

Now, having been guided onto the speedreading site, I have to say I am very excited to have found it, though I want to make sure it will help a 57-yr old who doesn't have the brain flexibility of a child. I've wanted to speed read for years. I have so much professional reading to do each day that I can hardly even think of reading for pleasure after work. I even ordered one of those expensive courses and returned it. It was way too time-consuming.....

...Looking forward to your response on both topics!

A.K.

George,

First, let me say thank you for your site (which I found btw, from a link on Berkeley Parent's Cooperative.) . About 8 months ago a dermatologist, first one I had seen in a long time, took a look at my toe nails and immediately prescribed Lamasil. I had watched my nails deteriorate over a number of years, but there was no pain and never paid it much attention. They were looking pretty ugly, I must admit.

After researching things a bit, I realized there was no way I was going to take the drug, with it's expense and possible side effects, to cure nail fungus, not if I could find something better.

And I did...thanks to your site. Vinegar, you number one cure, worked the best (I tried a few of the others first, but just briefly.)

Here's what I did. First, I cut the nails back as much as I reasonably could (in one case I was able to actually remove the nail.) I cleaned them out as much as possible. Now, after every shower I take a paper towel and soak it with the distilled vinegar. I use it to clean the nails and the entire foot (especially the sides of the feet, where the doc pointed out I also had problems with athlete's foot--the same fungus, she said, that was causing the nail problems.) Then I let my feet dry for a couple of minutes, and that's about it.

A couple of other things: I change my socks whenever they are damp;, sometimes several times a day. Since I never wear shoes in the house, if I step in a bit of water on the kitchen floor or bathroom, I put on dry socks. I do a lot of hiking and I used to drive home with my feet damp. No longer, I carry spare socks and footwear in the car and change before the trip home. I carry at least one pair of spare socks on the trail and change into them if my feet get sweaty. My sneakers and similar shoes that can be put in the washing machine now and then, I do. I ignored the dermatologists suggests to get rid of all my regular (leather) shoes and buy new ones.

That's about it....again, thanks. You have made a difference and really helped me.

George,

I have to write you and THANK YOU for this vinegar miracle that has happened

to my toenail fungus in just one week! My problems with this and also

Plantars warts have been bugging me for 40+ years. I made a commitement to my feet 3

years ago to have sandalworthy toes, whatever it took. "Feet First" was my

motto. I used Vicks Vaporub with some improvement. I've spent some big bucks

on other advertised cures with no improvement. After I saw the results of

vinegar after just a few days, I dove into the treatment, literally. With a

small plastic pan, I pour the vinegar on my feet until the liquid is about 1/2

inch deep. Using a toothbrush, I go over each nail until they are completely

saturated. Also, I've been using a pumice stone on the planter warts on the

bottom of my feet so to allow the vinegar to soak them. I do this twice a day.

Amazing things are happening. The warts are also improving. They seem to be

shrinking. I can hardly wait to see some new healthy growth on my nails. It's

been a long time since I've seen a real toenail. Many, many THANKS for

letting me in on this amazing treatment!

"George",

I just wanted to mention that my mother, who had a severe case of toenail fungus, began soaking her feet in 1 cup of vinegar and a little water in May. She does this twice a day for 20 minutes. In the first week the skin on her feet became soft. The person who told her to do this said it would take about 6 months. That is about the length of time it takes for a new toenail to grow. (today is 8/27) She showed me her toenails, and I am pleased to report that almost half of her toe nail, (from the root end) is clear!

I also wanted to mention that the 2 people, (unrelated) I know who took Lamisil, are once again infected.

Thank you for the site

Hello, this is a testamonial to the fact that vinegar ABSOLUTELY WORKS for

fungus. I have suffered with foot and toe nail fungus on and off for years.

Anyone who has this affliction knows what I mean when I say "on and off".

You treat it, it goes away, it comes back, you treat it again...etc. I

have been on Lamisil which cost $$$$ and I had to have blood work done

before starting and halfway thru treatment. It worked beautifully...and

lasted the longest...several years in fact. However, it did come back.

Most recently, I was using the over-the-counter lamisil cream and it just

wasn't working!! I was dreading the thought of having to go back on the

pills again but I was getting desparate. My feet were very painful, it

seemed the worst I had ever had it !!! THANK GOD, I found the vinegar info

on the net. I thought, well for 59cents .... what the heck!!! I simply

filled an old spray bottle with plain white vinegar and sprayed my feet

twice a day making sure to saturate the nails. I noticed improvement

quickly...about a week. All my nails are now clear. And an added

bonus...even my ingrown toenail is gone!!!! I just read a post somewhere

from a doctor who said don't believe any of the 'folk remedies'....

HAH...sure, go to the doctor and spend $$$$, put your liver at risk.

Listen, vinegar is dirt cheap ..... I'm so glad I "wasted" the 59 cents to

give it a try!!! I'm hooked for good. Thanks, God Bless, keep spreading

the good word!

Thanks for making that website...

my toe nails are off to the lab to see if I actually have a fungus or not - pretty sure I do. The doc will talk to me more about the drugs...and if my liver can handle it or not --- but I had asked her for homeopathic solutions and she gave me the following

- White vinegar soaks - no dilution and soak for 15 mins. daily

THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANTED A DILUTION FOR:

- Bleach soaks - 1 oz to 1 gallon of water soak for 15 mins daily --- will not hurt your skin and it is good as it dries out the nail and the fungus needs moisture to live

- Mellallucal Oil - brush top of nail with applicator once daily

- tea tree oil - brush top of nail with applicator once daily.

for all the above - brush toe-nails with an old toothbrush to remove debris after soaks.

I am sure you heard it all - but wanted to share with you what my doc shared with me especially the bleach one.
