"I was looking at your site about using Clorox for toenail fungus. It was stated that they didn't know what concentration to use. It is 2 parts cold water to 1 part bleach....all equal parts. IT WORKS!!!!"

"I saw your site and hope that I am sending this note to the right email address - it wasn't clear on the site how to contact you.

"I used Bleach Water for several months, my doctor told me to so I soaked my feet 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes at night. The KEY is to THOROUGHLY WASH THEM WITH SOAP AND WATER AFTER SOAKING. Otherwise your skin will get red and itchy. I just read somewhere that the old Clorox bleach bottles used to have a on their label "Use 1 Table Spoon of bleach in a gallon of water to soak feet as an effective treatment for athletes foot" but the FDA made them remove it - probably because it really worked and a lot of pharmaceutical money was being lost.

"I would try a Tablespoon per gallon as suggested. When I used the bleach, the doctor also had me on Nizoral - after several months on Nizoral, I developed a very large cyst on my ovary that went away as soon as I stopped taking it. Although my fungus cleared up, I always suspected that it was my twice-a-day bleaching that did the trick, not the medicine (I just can't prove it.) However, my husband is now bleaching his infected nails and we will soon be able to let you know.

"I do know that my cat had fleas and passed them on to me. The bites were on my knee and itched so bad for several weeks that I couldn't take it anymore so I put about 1/4 inch of very warm water in the tub, poured in a little bleach, and knelt down with my knee in the bleach water (on a soft sponge for a cushion) and the flea bites were cured practically overnight (PLEASE NOTE THAT AGAIN I WASHED IT THOROUGHLY AFTERWARD WITH SOAP AND WATER).

"Also, my husband has a bad case of skin fungus on his leg and knee - after one treatment of taking a washcloth and sponging the bleach water over it for about 10 minutes, it is almost completely cured (AND ONE MORE TIME, LET ME ADD THAT AFTER HE USED THE BLEACH, HE THOROUGHLY WASHED IT WITH SOAP AND WATER TO PREVENT IRRITATION.)"

Thanks,

Tracy P.

"Sir,

"I was able to rid myself of toenail fungus by filing the yellowed nail down to paper thin thickness - to the point where I was not quite drawing blood and applying bleach.

"This was my method: I showered taking care to clean the nail (after the filing) including some light brushing - or as much as I could stand. After I stepped out of the shower, and while the nail was still moist, I applied undiluted bleach using a Q-Tip to swab the nail surface. I put on my socks without rinsing off the bleach and went about the day. I did this for about three or four consecutive days.

"It was not painful at all.

"I had the toenail fungus for about 35 years but now I'm rid of it.

"I have a healthy looking nail now."

I was just looking at your website re: home remedies for toenail fungus, and noted you were uncertain as to the dilution of bleach for safe use. While I haven't tried this, I do know that in wound care in the medical arena, there is a bleach/water/boric acid solution called Dakin's solution, which is 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. (I'm not sure how much Boric acid is included). It is used daily to irrigate wounds and help reduce infection. However, bleach and water would have to be prepared about every 2-3 days, as it is unstable, and the chlorine will evaporate. Careful observation of the skin and toe is indicated.

That same concentration is used in cleaning up blood spills to avoid passing along the nastier illnesses (HIV, hepatitis).

I refuse to get on that Lamisil, so a friend told me to put ajax or clorox. You make a paste of it,and leave it on for 5 minutes, once a day works......................it lightens the color, and you know bleach kills evrything, so it has worked for me

Geo: After 36 days of using pure Clorox the fungus on my finger is dried up. I still keep putting it on once a day just to make sure the fungus don't return. It will take sometime for the finger nail to grow out. I hope that goes O.K. You must use extreme caution when using pure Clorox. Don't inhale it will burn your lungs, don't get it on fabric. Rinse it off your skin and mails after about 3-4 min. that's all it takes.

my dermatoligist told me the correct mix for clorox is one part clorox and 3 parts water.

Hello. My name is Lisa. I do not know how recent this web info is, but I'd like to share something concerning toenail fungus. I visited my doctor yesterday and one thing I asked her about was toenail fungus. She told me I'd be unable to take oral prescription for the fungus due to it being metobolized, or broken down in the liver. I also take seizure med and birth control, which are also broken down in the liver, so I'm limited to what meds I can take for certain ailments.

However she said she just read an article in a medical home journal indicating that a solution of 1 capful of bleach mixed with 2-3 cups of water - soak 15 min 2x per day would clear it up. She said it may take a few months - 6 months at the most to clear up. I can't remember the approximate time she told me. She said that after a while the toenail would probably turn white but not to worry because it would eventually clear up.

She also suggested the Vicks Vapo Rub solution.

Clorox now makes a "Bleach Pen" that cost about $4.00 from Wal-Mart It has a tip about the size of a pencil and can apply the full solution directly to the nail.

I filed my nail down and apply the bleach each morning after a shower. It works best when the nail is soft. After the first two applications I could tell the difference - underneath the nail turned yellow. As the nail is growing out, it is clear.

Cheap and easy!

FYI:

I got to your website via a friend today. Curiosity kept me looking on the website.

I wanted to say that Chlorine Bleach is one of the most dangerous, unregulated chemicals on the market today. It is instantly absorbed into the skin and stored in the body. I would NOT advise anyone to use it in the ways suggested on the website.

I don't have specifics, this was told to me by a textile artist who is very familiar with chemistry and compounds used to bleach material. He told us to never use it. At one time I did some research on this that supported what this person had told me.

I bought a one-ounce bottle of Reclaim @AF Medical Strength

Antimicrobial Nail Solution. Broad Spectrum for toenails and fingernails

infected with fungus or other microbes. Apply twice a day for a year.

It cost $15, much cheaper than the prescripton brand. It seems to be working. In the first week I was able to clip away the large mass of infected nail on the big toe, leaving the bare toe skin below. There was no pain in removing the discolored toenail, but it has left me with a slightly sore toe for a couple of weeks.

I hand wash dishes in plastic dishpans and add a splash of bleach to both the sudsy wash water and to the clear rinse water.

After dipping and rinsing the dishes, I pour the bleach-rich hot rinse water into a plastic bucket and soak my feet for ten minutes or so, once or twice a day.

I use the old-fashioned non-concentrated bleach. It's harder to find.

I find it among private store-brands of bleach in the gallon jug.

It doesn't seem to do any harm and makes my feet and toenails very squeeky clean. It may kill the Limberger-cheese bacteria that makes feet stink.

I found your site when I entered into the search box "bleach for fungus." Your site came up as number one in the list.

I wish I could get a medical doctor's opinion of my bleach-water soaks, but it's not easy to get access to MDs and their opinions might vary anyway.

I just talked about this with my doctor yesterday and in an unofficial way told me about useing bleach and water. while he was talking to himself he said to use a 4 to 1 ratio. Soak the nail for 15 min a day for a month. the nail should fall off and a new one would grow. Being a doctor he said he could not advise me to do it but it does work. I will see.

I live in a remote native Alaskan village and I don't have access to stores. BUT I did have a few things around to try. I didn't have bleach, but I did have Clorox disinfecting wipes. So I folded one each day very small and used scotch tape to secure it around my big toe where the fungus was. I left it there until it was nearly dry and then took it off. I also used the magnifying glass in the sun on it daily for about ten seconds. I have done this daily for a week and a half and have already noticed a significant change for the better in my toenail, which suffered a fungus due to a trauma about a year and a half ago. I do not know if it's going to 'cure' it but at least it already looks better. It turned my nail sort of opaque yellowy, but smooth. It had been lumpy and had more brown in it. Well, I'll try to let you know if it turns out ok. Thanks. M. in Alaska.

Good afternoon! I spoke with a nurse practitioner this morning regarding toenail fungus and she stated that bleach diluted with water in a 1:3 ratio worked quickly to eliminate toenail fungus. That ratio being 1-part bleach to 3-parts water. She stated to soak the affected nail twice daily in the bleach solution. She stated it was drying to the skin around the nail, but a little moisturizer fixed that. Just thought I’d share what info I found with you. I haven’t tried the remedy yet myself, but it sounds like an inexpensive alternative.

Thanks for making that website...

my toe nails are off to the lab to see if I actually have a fungus or not - pretty sure I do. The doc will talk to me more about the drugs...and if my liver can handle it or not --- but I had asked her for homeopathic solutions and she gave me the following

- White vinegar soaks - no dilution and soak for 15 mins. daily

THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANTED A DILUTION FOR:

- Bleach soaks - 1 oz to 1 gallon of water soak for 15 mins daily --- will not hurt your skin and it is good as it dries out the nail and the fungus needs moisture to live

- Mellallucal Oil - brush top of nail with applicator once dail

- tea tree oil - brush top of nail with applicator once daily.

for all the above - brush toe-nails with an old toothbrush to remove debris after soaks.

I am sure you heard it all - but wanted to share with you what my doc shared with me especially the bleach one.
